Fixing leaks

Finally got around to some car work. With the holidays, friends, family, travel and Daytona, car time was limited.

A few weeks ago, before heading to the historic car race in Sebring, I slowly filled the washer fluid tank only to discover it leaks. The tank is huge and required jacking the car to remove from it bottom. Also, it is no longer available from Porsche and my search with online retailers found nothing. So with help from Donnie, we cleaned and repaired the original tank

Clean tank!

Like new again almost. The driver side doesn't spray very well so I'll probably end up replacing all the hoses.

Next up is the power steering. The pressure line sprung a leak which was spraying all over my new sway bar bushing. It looked like an easy fix, so I ordered the hose. Come to find out, to replace the hose you need to remove/drop the steering rack. Since that had to be done, I replaced the boots, steering rack bushing, and tie rod ends. A couple nights work and it was back on the road.

The old line disconnected from the pump and zip tied out of the way.

New boot on the passenger side.

In order to center the rack, there is a little dimple in the rack that you can see through this view port. It's a 10x1, metric thread so an old Mavic rear axle with a ball bearing worked perfect.

New tie rod end.

The end result is a leak free 944S!
