This weekend I was ready to finally repair the odometer and the instrument panel lights. Everything was going smooth, until I got to the step to remove the speedometer needle in order to access the broken odometer gear. Reading the forums I knew this would be the most critical step. I managed to break the shaft the needle is pressed onto. D'oh! Just for a reference, the shaft diameter measures in at .62mm. If nothing else, this car has made me learn to have a great deal of patience.
Not all is lost, as there are a few options.
Not all is lost, as there are a few options.
- I requested a estimate to refresh the instrument cluster from a shop in California (http://www.nhspeedometer.com) They seem to be "The Place". Might be too expensive.
- A Euro Junkyard downtown has a complete cluster on their website. I will call them on Monday.
- There is a local gauge repair shop in Clearwater.
I'm hoping to just get the speedometer repaired if it's possible. I put the instrument panel light fix on hold until I figure out the Speedo.
If you stumble across this post looking for direction for these fixes, I used these sites as references.
