Playing with fuel

So, a couple Sunday's ago, I was driving around basking in the glory of watching the odometer turning and the fuel pump started making noise. At first I thought it was the radiator fan kicking on, because it was warm out, but it wasn't.

Reading the forums, they say these Bosch fuel pumps are very reliable.  If it's making noise, something else is causing it to make noise. I already had a fuel filter, so I figure that would be an easy place to start. Once under the car I saw the date stamp on the current fuel filter was from 2015, so it wasn't that old. Then I noticed the the fuel line coming out of the filter was leaking when the pump was on.

The new fuel line arrived today and after work I replaced it. Wow what a difference! The low end of the rpm's have come alive. Before replacing the fuel line when I would "blip" the throttle, there was a hesitation. From researching on the web it sounded like the hesitation could be the injectors or vacuum lines, but it looks like this took care of it.

Took a short drive to get some pizza, and there were no noises from the fuel pump!

I did purchase a fuel pressure gauge, so in the next couple weeks I'll perform a pressure check and leak down test per Clark's Garage (http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/fuel-01.htm)

Stay tuned.
